The request to delete information—commonly referred to as the “right to erasure” or “right to be forgotten”—is a provision under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that allows you to ask Eyre to remove their personal data from records or databases.

According to article 17 of GDP (Regulation (EU) 2016/679), data subjects can make this request when their information is no longer needed, is being used unlawfully, or has been processed without valid consent.

A 2021 study by the European Data Protection Board found that nearly half of GDPR-related complaints included aspects of data erasure, showing that an increasing number of individuals prioritize control over their personal information.

Organizations are required to honor valid erasure requests within one month, although they may extend this period to two months if the request is particularly complex. Under GDPR, there are also conditions where an organization can refuse to erase data, such as fulfilling legal obligations or archiving purposes in the public interest.

How to request data erasure

The process to request the deletion of personal data involves several steps.

  1. Use [email protected] for data protection or privacy inquiries.

  2. Submit a clearly worded request under Article 17 of the GDPR, stating the reasons why erasure is necessary, such as data no longer serving its original purpose.

  3. Provide any supporting evidence needed, like references to prior communications or proof of invalid data processing.

  4. Once the request is received, Eyre must evaluate its own legal responsibilities, either removing the data or explaining—within GDPR timelines—why it cannot do so. if a conflict arises, individuals can escalate the matter to their national data protection authority or pursue legal action if they believe their rights have been infringed.

DIY approach: Deleting old meeting content

You can delete your unwanted meetings from the Past meeting history. The meeting data (agenda, Speaker Notes, transcripts, summaries) will be erased permanently from our servers.

Simply navigate to the Meetings > Meeting history and choose which meetings to delete. In the future, you will be able to set meeting auto-deletion (expiry) date when creating a meeting.

Why you must regularly erase your personal data

In an era where data breaches are regularly reported, exercising the right to erasure can help limit the amount of personal information held by companies, reducing the potential impact of unauthorized disclosures.

However, individuals should be aware that the request to delete information is not absolute and may be overridden by compelling legal or public interest considerations. If in any doubt, email [email protected] for more information.
